Minor All-Star
2025 Minor All-Star Program
Please read all the information on this page. In addition, Head Coach Ben Copp has provided a letter with information of interest to families with players interested in a spot on the All-Star team:
Visit the Summer Ball tryout information page for dates and times for tryout dates and for competition dates and locations. Players hoping for a spot on the All-Star team must attend the tryout. (Canadian level hopefuls attend the same tryout).
Athletes with an unavoidable conflict for both of the first two sessions are to send an email to president@southottawalittleleague immediately upon learning of the problem and NO LATER than the applicable registration deadline, FULLY explaining the reason for the absence. A decision will be made on a case by case basis by the board's executive committee about whether an alternate assessment opportunity is possible. No player shall be named to a team without an appropriate assessment. The best option for all players is to attend the scheduled tryout sessions.
The All-Star team competes in D6 Districts in early to mid July, and if successful will represent District 6 in the Provincial championships in late July / early August. There is no Canadian (National) level competition in Minor.
In advance of trying out, parents will be asked to confirm their child's availability for District and Provincial dates.
The team also plays in the Summer City interlock league in July & August.
Accepting a spot on the All-Star team means you'll be playing lots of baseball, especially in the lead up to districts. Nevertheless the league understands that despite the significant commitment involved, it must also be reasonable. To be on a diamond nearly every day for whole summer would be unreasonable and not positive for any young player.
The following information is provided to give parents key dates and a sense of the commitment level. Families with unavoidable conflicts, or with specific questions can contact VP Competitive Ken Gorman or Head Coach Ben Copp.
After the team is formed in late May / early June, tournaments and practices will be held to start preparation for district competition. The team has been entered in the tournaments listed below. In addition there will be 1-2 practices per week: 1 where there is also a tournament happening, and up to 2 in weeks where there is no tournament play. Once spring ball finishes at the end of June, the all-star team will start playing in the summer interlock league after Canada Day. (2 games per week). Interlock games are suspended when the team is in districts, and during the lead up to provincials. After the Brockville tourney in the lead up to districts, 2 practices per week should be expected.
Districts / Provincials Schedules
Start dates for districts etc are posted on the website. End dates depend on how many leagues enter a team. If not all 4 D6 leagues enter a team the date range may be shortened. Rain delays could extend it. The format is usually double elimination at major. The schedule will be available in late July if not sooner. Teams can play on any day, including two days in a row as well as during the day should two games be necessary in one day.
