Junior (co-ed)
2024 Season Update:
We will have 4 junior spring times this season which is expected to result in forming 2 Canadian (A) teams and 2 National (B) teams. Final decisions as to the split will depend on sort out skill results.
As is outlined in the below information section, the junior division participates in an interlock schedule which means we travel to play against teams in other leagues. In some seasons our national teams interlock ONLY with Glebe LL but usually national teams participate in city wide interlock. Depending on the number of teams in the city, interlock can be split into an east / west schedule, especially at national.

JUNIOR DIVISION INFORMATION
This is the first division in which base runners can lead off and where pitchers therefore attempt to "pick off the runner" by throwing to the base. The diamond size is also bigger than the Major division sized diamonds. All of this adds great fun to the game and a whole new learning experience. Coaches take great care to assist first year players and new players in making the transition.
Steel cleats are permitted but not necessary at this level.
South Ottawa spring junior teams play against teams from other leagues. This will include teams from our own district - District 6 (Orleans, Glebe, Carleton Russell, Prescott Russell) and District 2 (Kanata, East Nepean, Ottawa West). In some seasons teams from places such as Mississippi, Winchester and Hawkesbury may enter teams. Schedules are created with travel in mind so that long trips (ie: Carleton Russell to Mississippi) are eliminated if possible, or at least minimized.
Our spring junior program has two divisions - Canadian (A) and National (B) in order to group players with other similarly skilled players. Based on spring evaluation results players are allocated to the group most appropriate to their skill level.
Spring Nationals Note: In the past few seasons there have been a significant number of junior national teams in the region. This has made scheduling and travel a challenge. If numbers continue as expected, district organizers will split teams into two groups based on geography - possibly an east and west conference. This will reduce travel distances for all teams particularly for "outlying teams". SOLL teams are central so while we have not experienced a lot of frequent, painful travel this change will still simplify things for us too. This does not apply to the Canadian division where there are far fewer teams.
Summer
Registration for summer ball (Jul/Aug) will be communicated to spring players mid May and be held at the end of May or early June.
Unlike summer ball in minor and major divisions where there are three levels (All star, Canadian, National) -- the junior program has only two divisions - Canadian (which plays in district/prov competition) and National. We form one Canadian team, and one or more National teams depending on numbers. Our summer program numbers normally attracts enough players to form only one National team. All spring players are eligible for the summer ball program and are encouraged to register. Teams play an interlock schedule which includes teams from other Ottawa and surrounding area leagues.
Please visit our Summer program page for more details on the summer program.

For both spring and summer leagues our home field is the Ron Milks Diamond located behind Franco Cite High School 523 Smyth Road. There will be two scheduled games per week, one home and one away game. The day of the week will vary from Monday through Thursday. Should we have more than four teams, play will be extended to Fridays and/or Sunday evenings. In most weeks there will also be a practice subject to player and coach availability.
