Summer Ball in South Ottawa Little League
Each summer ball division has it's own page where we post information important for parents to understand in advance of registering. On the home page under "Summer Ball" you will find the list of divisions including dates for district and provincial competition where applicable.
Summer ball is an opportunity for spring players to continue playing baseball in July and August. While summer ball tends to attract the more dedicated players, it is not true that it's intended just for the most skilled.
Summer ball is not the same as spring ball. Most divisions play in the summer interlock league which involves travel to play vs other teams in the Ottawa area. Unlike spring ball, games are scheduled on various weekdays although rained out games may occasionally be scheduled on weekends. One home game, one away game per week. Practices are scheduled at the discretion of the coaches.
Players may tryout for any tier of summer ball available in their division, regardless of which tier they were aligned to in spring ball. The only exception is Rookie Provincial where spring players will continue in that specific tier so that their development continues in the best way possible. Rookie spring National players who found that program too challenging can request to join the Provincial summer program if spaces exist.
To register for summer ball, players must have played in the spring program.
Summer Uniforms
All summer players (except T-Ball and Rookie Provincial) will receive an apparel package which is included in registration fees. Included are baseball pants, dry-fit practice jersey and socks. Hats are provided in spring ball. Replacement hats are available through Houle Sports. Navy belts are a required part of the summer uniform and available for purchase at Houle Sports or at other retailers - returning players usually have one already.
Holidays
It is understood that summertime brings family holiday time, and we realize players are likely to be away for some games, perhaps even a couple of weeks at a time. This should not stop you from registering. You will be asked to indicate known/expected vacation times in the registration form to help us plan team rosters with vacations in mind. We try to have an adequate number of players per team so that holiday absences are not problematic. The exception to this is in the all-star divisions where players MUST be available for district, provincial and national competition dates.
